The album wasn’t a critical success, and as the Britpop movement they were associated with gradually faded bit by bit, Power talked of refreshing the Cast sound for their third album. ’s ‘Magic Hour’ was to produce three of Cast’s greatest moments, four very good ones and five not so great ones. They hadn’t managed to record.

Magic Hour doesn't quite live up to the pop forcefulness of Cast's debut album, All Change, but it's still a remarkably firm release nonetheless. Magic Hour's songwriting rises way above 's Mother Nature Calls, especially on tracks such as "Alien" and "Chasing the Day.".

The spirited Beatlesque 'Dreamer', is classic Cast and this time is backed up by a great rock middle-eight. A perfect example of timeless Liverpudlian melodic rock. 'Magic Hour' sees a change of pace and again suffers from a weak melody that plagued the previous album/5(21).

Cast's 3rd album, Magic Hour was originally released in Despite reaching number 6 in the album charts the album fell away fairly quickly and never sold as well as the previous two. The musical climate was changing and Cast wasn't immune. This is such a shame as I think this is a fantastic album with superb production by Gil Norton/5(23).

I was actually surprised at how good this CD is; having bought the first two Cast releases, (which I would rate B or B+), I only had to listen to Magic Hour once to be blown away by its quality. Everyone I have played this album for agrees: Magic Hour is one of the top albums or /5(3).
